Shoreline Story: Lisa Mills, Personal Injury Team

This month, we spoke to Lisa Mills, a Chartered Legal Executive in the Personal Injury Department at Barker Booth & Eastwood. Keep reading to find out more about her journey into law, cases she is currently working on and what she enjoys most about her role…

Please introduce yourself and give us a potted history of your career so far and what you do at Barker Booth & Eastwood….

I graduated from university in 2015 and subsequently qualified as a Chartered Legal Executive. I opted to study Law from the outset on a part-time basis to ensure an early foot in the door working full time within a Law firm building lots of experience whilst studying. Working and studying Law school in the evenings was no easy feat but it definitely put me at an advantage amongst fellow graduates. In 2012, I entered the Personal Injury sector, a sector I have remained in since. I currently work for the very well-known law firm, Barker Booth and Eastwood located on the Fylde coast, within the Personal Injury team, running my own caseload from inception through to trial.

How did you become a Personal Injury Lawyer?

Whilst working in another area of Law, a colleague from the personal injury department asked me if I fancied working within their department- I jumped at the chance to learn something new and well the rest is history!

What do you enjoy most about your role and working at Barker Booth & Eastwood?

The best bit about working for Barker Booth & Eastwood is the support from the Directors. They are invested in supporting their staff and seeing them thrive. Their ethos genuinely feeds into not only the excellent client care Barker Booth & Eastwood is known for but also their staff.

Could you share some cases that you are currently representing with a claim?

I am currently representing two clients, a husband and wife who were sadly involved in a road traffic collision whilst stood on the pavement. Both sustained serious brain injuries. The value of these cases is yet to be fully understood however I anticipate a 6-figure sum. In a split second of recklessness by another, their lives have been turned upside down. I look forward to providing these cases with a lot of care and attention to hopefully reach a successful conclusion.

What is one quick piece of advice that you would give to someone thinking about making a personal injury claim?

The best advice I can give to a prospective new client is that personal injury cases can take time. There can be many reasons why this is the case, such as a Claimant suffering ongoing symptoms and requiring treatment to understand the extent of their injuries. Our goal is to ensure each client’s case is fully explored, the true extent of their injuries is clearly understood and that they are accurately compensated as a result. Patience is key to having a successful personal injury claim!
