Planning for life after death is extremely difficult. However, we see it as simply taking care of the people who are most important to us.
We hear these lines everyday ‘Oh I’m too young to make a Will’ or ‘I don’t have anything to leave’………….
Are you over 18, married, divorced, have children or own a property, then the answer to the above is you should consider making a Will
Making a Will
It is very important not to put off making a Will as nobody knows what our future holds. By making a Will, you may appoint people you trust to deal with your assets (known as the ‘Executor’) and it will also specify whom you wish to benefit from your assets (known as a ‘Beneficiary’). Having a Will hopefully will avoid any potential legal disputes that may arise for your family after you have gone.
For clients that already hold a Will with Barker Booth & Eastwood, our recommendation is that they are reviewed at least every five years. Our day to day lives do of course constantly change i.e. grandchildren arrive, cohabiting couples get married, death of a Beneficiary… and the list goes on! Your will should be reviewed any time you have a significant change of circumstances, such as having children, getting divorced or re-married.
Once your Will is finalised, you can leave it with us and we will hold this free of charge in our Safe Custody and you will not have the worry that it may get lost or damaged or destroyed!
If you wish to have an informal chat or have any further questions regarding making or updating your Will, please do not hesitate to email us at janetc@bbelaw.co.uk or telephone to speak to one of our experienced Will Team.
